Vintage Italian Pitcher by Serafino Mattucci (1960)
SKU 2581
A bold mid-century Italian pouring pitcher by Serafino Mattucci, featuring a confident, sculptural form and expressive surface decoration. While the shape is distinctly Mattucci’s own, the painterly glaze reflects the influence of Guido Gambone and the ceramic tradition he created in Florence. In short, it is an engaging studio piece with strong visual presence. In good overall condition. Maker's mark on the underside including production date of 28th May, 1960. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this piece. Upon request a video will be provided.
About the Artist: Serafino Mattucci (1912–2004) was an Italian painter and ceramist associated with the post-war revival of Italian ceramics. Born in Philadelphia, he moved to Italy in the 1920s and trained in Castelli, Faenza, and Bologna, studying under figures including Domenico Rambelli and Giorgio Morandi. Active in major exhibitions such as the Milan Triennale, he collaborated for many years with architect Giò Ponti and later served as director of the Istituto d’Arte per la Ceramica in Castelli.
