A striking mid-century glazed ceramic mirror by Galerie Palissy, Vallauris, France, dating to the 1960s. This relatively small piece exemplifies the distinctive Riviera modernism that defined Vallauris ceramics in the postwar decades — a blend of artisanal craft and sculptural form. The rectangular frame, crafted in textured earthenware, features a deeply modelled surface with incised and relief geometric motifs. Its rich, hand-applied glazes catch the light beautifully, highlighting the natural irregularities of the clay. The mirror retains its original glass and is fitted with a sturdy hanging loop on the reverse. Signed “Galerie Palissy – Vallauris” on the back, confirming its origin in one of the town’s mid-century ceramic workshops active during Vallauris’s golden era, when artists and artisans such as Picasso, Capron, Derval and many others brought international attention to the region. Pieces signed by Galerie Palissy are increasingly sought after for their decorative depth and tactile artistry, emblematic of the period’s Mediterranean aesthetic. In good overall condition. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video will be provided.

About Gallery PalissyGalerie Palissy was one of the ceramic galleries/workshops active in the renowned potter’s town of Vallauris during the 1950s-1960s, producing glazed decorative objects and wall ceramics that now form part of the vintage French Riviera design heritage. While detailed archival records of Galerie Palissy are limited, examples of their glazed ceramic mirrors, wall pieces and decorative forms are recognised today among collectors of Vallauris ceramics and often appear at auction.
