Vintage French Hand-Painted Ceramic Vase by Roger Capron (circa 1960s)
SKU 2094
A vintage French ceramic hand-painted vase by ceramicist Roger Capron (circa 1960s). The painted figures are surely inspired by Picasso who also resided in Vallauris, France while Capron's studio was in creative production. This very special and unique piece was hand painted by Capron during a period he was nursing an injury. The image on the other side of the body is a beautiful stylised plant shooting upwards which was painted by Capron using only his finger! We became aware of this story from the seller of the piece who recounted that he had bought it from the pottery turner at Picault, (a neighbouring pottery in Vallauris) a person called "Baba". The vase's form is classically inspired by ancient vessels with sensuous handles that held water, wine or oils. It is magnificent, uplifting and 100% collectible with the added interest of a personalised story regarding the ceramicist himself.
