Vintage French ceramic table lamp by Robert Picault (circa 1950s). A classic Vallauris lamp decorated in his signature style. The bottle-shaped body tapers to a slender neck and is encircled by alternating bands of spirals and zigzags, hand-painted in cream against a deep green glaze. The effect is graphic and rhythmic, with a slightly archaic feel that recalls ancient Mediterranean pottery. Lit from above, the glaze takes on rich, varied tones of forest and sea green. The lamp is in good overall condition and is initialed at the base, 'RP'. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video will be provided. The lamp is sold without the shade. Please enquire about purchasing it separately. Currently wired for Continental European use, it can easily be adapted for your location by changing the plug.
About the Artist: Robert Picault (1919-2000) was one of the leading figures in Vallauris’s post-war ceramic revival, when Picasso’s arrival made the small town near Cannes a centre of creative pottery. He is best known for his functional wares decorated with geometric motifs, which combine handmade warmth with a crisp, modern sense of design.
