Vintage French Ceramic Pot by Jacques Blin (circa 1960s)

Vintage ceramic pot by Jacques Blin (circa 1960s) of an unusual, sculptural form for the artist: a rounded, footed vessel with two large ring handles, recalling an Asian incense burner. The body is deeply etched with Blin's characteristic sgraffito decoration: a whimsical band of primeval motifs including a wheel, a fish, stylised figures, a spiral, and geometric bordering, set against his signature cloudy, misty glaze in soft blue-white and charcoal tones. The piece stands on four small stub feet, with a pale robin's-egg blue glaze to the interior. In good overall condition. Signature impressed on the underside: 'J. About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920–1995), French ceramicist, was an engineer by trade but with a love for the visual arts. His style is immediately recognisable, characterised by a more or less misty appearance in the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently used fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures, and whimsical abstract motifs in his works, which are always signed 'J. Blin'.
