Mid-Century French ceramic pitcher by Jeanne & Norbert Pierlot (circa 1960s). With an off-white base and brown sandstone accents, this rustic pitcher with handle and spout is a delight. The glazed parts that are predominantly off-white are lustrous and satiny; the spotted brown segments lend interest to the piece which is visually and tactilely inviting. In good overall condition. Maker's mark - a small owl - can be found on the body of the pitcher and the underside. Please enjoy the accompanying photos with this listing. Upon request a video will be provided.

About the Artists: Jeanne (1917-1988) and Norbert (1919-1979) Pierlot, started their pottery in the 1950s in Ratilly, in the centre part of France. Although utilitarian pieces were the focus from the start, their experience and creativity ultimately drove their works towards more abstraction, particularly those of Norbert, in the latter period of his life. Pot-shaped works were off-centre, distorted, without ornamentation and thus registering as full-fledged sculptures. Their maker's mark is a small owl, usually, but not always on the base. The Pierlot legacy was carried on by their daughter, Nathalie.
