Vintage French Ceramic Jug by Le Mûrier (circa 1960s)

Vintage ceramic jug / vase by Gustave Reynaud / Le Mûrier (circa 1960s). This elegant pitcher doubles as a flower vase or simply a delightful work of art for your shelves or table. It is in the trademark style of Gustave Reynaud. On the rustic exterior you will find charming flowers with blue petals as well as leaves and branches on the piece's body. The surface glaze consists of a chalky white base with subtle blue / grey hues and a muted, appealing sheen. This is complemented by the maker's speckled effect in an earth brown, perhaps to symbolise the earth from which the flower grew. The interior mouth surface reveals horizontal bands coinciding with the potter's fabrication marks. Utterly charming and delightfully unassuming, this piece will be the centre of conversation for those lucky enough to have it in their view. In very good overall condition. About the Artist: Gustave Reynaud (1915-1972) founded the pottery, Le Mûrier (Mulberry Tree), in Vallauris, France in 1955. He produced earthenware designed in conjunction with his well known brother-in-law, Jean Derval, as well as vases, wall plaques and anthropomorphic jugs. He also worked with the potter, J-F Descombes, and decorator Michel Barbier in their well known village in the French Riviera. After Reynaud's death in 1972 his wife ran the pottery until 1984.
