Vintage French Ceramic Flower Vase by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s)
SKU 1210A
A blue ceramic decorative vase (circa 1950s) by French ceramicist, Jacques Blin (1920 - 1995). The vase is in a subdued blue in Blin's trademark misty glaze. There are areas where the dark undercoat is revealed in amorphous shapes - a rare stylistic modification. Blin's whimsical birds encircle the bulbous centre whereas decorative bands appear above and below the creatures. On top there is a wide mouth where the white interior of the piece is in view. This is a very original piece in a much sought-after style. In good vintage condition. Signed: 'J. Blin' on the underside base.
About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920 - 1995) gave up a career in engineering for his love of the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and abstract motifs in his works which are always signed "J. Blin".
