Mid-century decorative ceramic flower holder (circa 1960s) by Marcel Giraud, Vallauris, France. A delightful creation with a graceful, spherical shape, sporting a mouth surrounded by flower holes making this a very original piece. The glaze is a subtle sandy coloured base with a Japonisme-inspired decorative motif. The spout lip is painted brown with touches of jade green. The vase may be used for its intended purpose or simply displayed as a beautiful ceramic object. Either way, it will bring some Zen into your life. In good overall condition. About the Artist: Marcel Giraud (born 1937), from Vallauris, France left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter at the workshop of Blaise Rubino. He later worked at several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960 creating mostly utilitarian ware. Since 1975 Giraud has taken up painting, sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals and other decorative objects in his retirement.
