Vintage Blue ceramic umbrella holder by C.A.S. Vietri (circa 1950s). In the style of Guido Gambone, this impressive piece features a delightful sea creatures motif. The structure is vibrant turquoise, somewhat muted with age, with accents not unlike candle wax, particularly on the lip at the top. A work of art which surely inspired the master ceramist, Guido Gambone. Or was it the other way around? Made for the USA export market, specifically for Saks Fifth Avenue yet this one somehow stayed in Italy...until now. The colour is just so cheerful. It will undoubtedly lift your spirits on sunny days or on those rainy days when you'll use it the most. In overall good condition with loads of character. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. On the underside: 'Saks Fifth Avenue - Made in Italy 308'.
About the Producer: C.A.S. (Ceramiche Artistiche Solimene) started producing ceramics when Vincenzo Solimene, was operating in Vietri Sul Mare beginning in 1947. In 1951 Vincenzo asked the architect Paolo Soleri to design the building that would house his new factory. Thus was born, in 1954, the current headquarters of the C.A.S. in Vietri Sul Mare, a town on the Amalfi Coast with an ancient tradition of creating ceramics dating back to the 5th century.
