'The Magician', oil on board, by JW (circa 1960s). Magic is a concept used to describe a way of thinking that looks to invisible forces to influence events or change material conditions, or even just to present the illusion of change. In this painting the artist with initials 'JW' depicts a colourful man conjuring up magic acts and sleights-of-hand just as a cubist artist conjures images which abandon all known form and representations of traditional art. This is a spirited and vivid painting which will magically transform the interior of your home or workspace.
JW was inspired by works of well known artists - this is clear. He / she lived in Berlin and most likely chose to simply initial their artworks rather than sign them. This type of art was considered unorthodox and not 'authorised' under the tenets of socialist realism that existed at that time. In any case, this is a wonderfully inspired painting which will be a valuable addition to your living or work spaces. In good vintage condition commensurate with age. Initialed 'JW' in lower left hand corner. Newly framed with linen slip. Upon request a video clip may be provided.
