'The Life-Drawing Class' by M. David (circa 1960s)
SKU 0704
'The Life-Drawing Class', oil on board, by French (likely) artist M David (circa 1960s). A swirling, colourfully vivacious artwork that is immediately attractive and captivating. A life-drawing class allows artists, or prospective artists, to practice their technique sketching or painting living, breathing, often nude models. The models are usually unclothed to enable the artists the opportunity and the challenge of depicting other than inanimate objects, including clothing. The dynamism is different. In this wildly colourful artwork however, the figure being sketched is robed entirely in white, angelic, surrounded by an arc or halo of white as well. This may convey the artist's belief that the human form is god-like and depicting it, a gift. Or is it a statue? Regrettably nothing is known of the artist, M. David, so the interpretation of this wonderful work is conjecture. What is undeniable however, is the compelling nature of this piece of art and its stunning beauty with its painterly layers. In fair vintage condition with some blemishing and evident deterioration of the painting surface commensurate with age. Please see all accompanying photos. Newly framed and preserved. Signed: 'M David'. Upon request a video of the piece will be provided.
