'The Flowered Well' by Pierre Philippe Bertrand, oil on board, circa 1960s. The artist lived in a fisherman's home on the Île d'Yeu off of the French Western coast. This enchanting work depicts an idyllic view of the artist's garden with water well. It will surely bring a smile to your face and perhaps even a bit of that coastal sunlight warmth which is reflecting off of the whitewashed well. The painting has been professionally restored to ensure its longevity and is in good vintage condition commensurate with age. It is also newly framed with a linen slip. Signed by the artist: 'Pierre Bertrand' in lower right hand corner. Upon request a video of the work will be provided.
About the Artist: Pierre Philippe Bertrand (1884 - 1975), French artist who, from 1907 exhibited his works in the majority of the Parisian art salons. His works are part of the collections of many museums including the Musée du Luxembourg. Bertrand was mobilised during the first World War and was taken prisoner by the Germans. In 1926 he moved to the Île d'Yeu in Western France where he became the official artist of the French Navy. Bertrand's works have seen success at several of the well known European auction houses. He died in Paris in 1975 and now reposes on the Île d'Yeu.
