'The Dog Days of Summer' by Felix Masse (c. 1960s)
'The Dog Days of Summer' (c. 1960s), oil on board, by Felix Masse (1919 - 1981). A strapping young man, seated, holds his pet dog on his lap close to his chest. Cubist in style, each angular stroke marks the line dividing one bold colour from the next. The young man is the essence of cool - the 1960s equivalent of a beach boy or surfer dude. The bright colours, a reflection of the joy in his life and the brightness of his future. A joyful explosion of colour. Newly framed with linen mount. In good vintage condition with minor blemishes on the peripheries of the painting; signed in lower right hand corner: 'Masse'. The works of French artist, Felix Masse (1919 - 1981), have been sold widely at auction including in the major international houses.
