'The Auction House' by Gerard Fagard (circa 1970s)
SKU 0867
'The Auction House', (La Vente aux Enchères) gouache on fine art paper, by French artist, Gerard Fagard (circa 1970s). A delightfully animated scene of a provincial auction house holding their sale. The assistant points to the item up for bids (the elephant in the room?) while the auctioneer describes it in the most flattering of terms. The bidders seem preoccupied however, with other things, most likely awaiting their lot number to have its turn on the podium. The colours are vibrant and the artist's style is inviting. The work is in good vintage condition and has been newly framed and glazed. Signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner: 'G. Fagard'.
