'Still Life with Champagne' (circa 1940s-60s)
SKU 0911
'Still Life with Champagne', oil on board, unsigned, School of Berlin (circa 1940s - 1960s). An inviting, cubist still life representation from an unknown artist. This particular work depicts items - including a champagne bottle - atop a wooden table painted in muted colours of earthy browns, shaded yellows, bluish-grey, beige and off-white. Bold lines and angles weave in between the subtle hues creating a Georges Braque-like representation. Braque (1882 - 1963) often painted wine bottles into his cubist works and clearly this is an inspired homage to the master. Unfortunately there are no details of the artist that painted this piece other than they lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. In fair vintage condition with some minor age-related blemishes in the paint. The piece has been beautifully framed with linen slip to complement the art. Please carefully view the many photos with the listing to best assess its condition and style. Upon request, a short video clip of this work may be provided.
