'Still Life with Bouquet and Carafe', oil on canvas, by Kumiko Kuroda (1969). Painted with joyful verve, this piece explodes with vivid verdant splendour. The artwork celebrates life in its depiction of luminous, long-stem flowers and shooting plants flourishing in natural light. At the same time, the artist recognises life's transitory nature using the dying leaf on the table as metaphor. The filled carafe or jug is the Buddhist symbol relating to the achievement of greatness by taking small steps, one at a time or drop by drop. ('Drop by drop is the water pot filled. Likewise, the wise man gathering it little by little, fills himself with good.'). To achieve greatness, the artist also requires patience through life's seasons. The artwork is In good vintage condition commensurate with age. In new tray frame. Signed in the lower lefthand corner: 'M.K. Kuroda 1969 5'. Upon request a video clip of this work may be provided.
