Still Life - Artist's Studio, oil on board, by G. Muller (circa 1940s - 1960s). This cubist still life is clearly influenced by George Braque, Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso. An artist's palette with fresh layers of paint and nearby brushes lie on a table in the centre of the piece. Sketches, drawings and right angle rulers focus the viewer upon the tools and creations of the artist whose studio to which we have been invited. The rough board and evident brush strokes add texture and dimension to the artwork. The work is mostly accomplished using muted earth tones with small splashes of colour which act to attract the gaze of the viewer. In good vintage condition. Newly framed with linen slip insert. Signed: 'G. Muller' in the lower righthand corner. Upon request, a video of the piece will be provided.

Our gallery has access to a cache of paintings from Berlin in the 1940s - 1960s. Regrettably the artist is unknown and it is therefore impossible to deduce anything about their background or aspirations. What we do know is this work remains beautifully compelling even after so many years after its creation.
