'Seated Cubist Nude', oil on board, by artist with the initials STM (circa 1950s). A splendid cubist depiction, this is a significant portrait of a seated nude woman in geometric perspective. The earth-tone hues - brown, beige, clay-red with a soupçon of blue-grey all combine in angular forms and on interlocking planes. This eye-catching work was surely inspired by Pablo Picasso's early cubist style. Unfortunately nothing is known of this artist, STM, other than he/she lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. Several galleries have acquired and are now selling STM's works - this speaks to the widespread assessment of the quality and interest of the art. The work is in excellent vintage condition and has been newly framed. Initialed: 'STM' in lower righthand corner. This piece is certainly an inspired choice for your home.
