Jacques Pouchain (1925-2005) left Paris and gave up his architectural training in the 1950's for the South of France to devote himself to art and his pottery studio at Dieulefit. He produced highly personal work and more commercial pieces as well both revealing a modern approach to pottery. This stunning, large mid-century ceramic vase has an elegant Japanese-style glaze, Zen-like in its beauty and simplicity. The colours are off-white, light red with patches of subtle darker shades. This colour form is a very rare addition to the Pouchain body of work. The hallmark etching on the vase bottom says Atelier Dieulefit. In excellent vintage condition.
