'Portrait of Vladimir Lenin', oil on board, by unknown Eastern European artist (Circa 1970s). A fine example of socialist realism painting, this depicts Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, better known as Lenin (1870 - 1924), Russian communist revolutionary, politician and political theorist. Clearly a very sympathetic portrait of Lenin in line with the tenets of socialist realism which is characterised by rigorously optimistic pictures of Soviet life painted in a realist style. Lenin's relaxed pose exudes confidence and the backdrop appears peacefully rural, where perhaps members of the agricultural proletariat might be working. The work is unsigned. In original frame with new backing. For lovers of Russian history or for those who have a keen interest in powerful figures from the early 20th century.
