'Portrait of Natural Man and Woman' by STM (circa 1940s - 1960s)
SKU 0473
'Portrait of Natural Man and Woman', oil on board, by STM (circa 1940s - 1960s). The artist with the initials, STM, rarely disappoints. Here the artist creates an intriguing portrait of a man and woman in nature. The backdrop in this portrait is a solid field of green with a trace of grey. The chair upon which they sit is painted in more vibrant but related, natural hues. The two figures stand out in their flesh tones which contrast beautifully with the backdrop. The painterly brushstrokes add depth and texture in between the wide dark strokes that form the human outlines of their loving embrace. Newly framed with an elegant linen slip. In good vintage condition commensurate with age. Signed: 'STM' in lower lefthand corner. Upon request, a short video clip of the piece will be provided.
About the Artist: Our gallery has access to a cache of paintings from Berlin in the 1940s - 1960s. What we know of STM is derived from our source from whom we've obtained this artwork along with several others. The artist who used the initials, STM, ostensibly lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. In recognition of the artwork's appeal, several galleries have acquired and are now selling STM's works - this also speaks to the widespread assessment of the quality and interest of the art.
