'Portrait of Man and Woman' by STM (c. 1950s)
0290
'Portrait of Man and Woman', oil on board, by artist with the initials STM (c. 1950s). A very impressive cubist depiction of a portrait of a young man and woman in angled perspective. The facial features are simply lines and colour with hues from across the spectrum: blues, greens, browns and reds, each harmonious and in balance. This painting surely was inspired by Pablo Picasso's cubist period. The artist, STM, lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. Several galleries have acquired and are now selling STM'S works - this speaks to the widespread assessment of the quality and interest of the art. This piece is in excellent vintage condition in original gilded frame with new coloured linen mount and reglazing. Initialed, 'STM' in lower left hand corner.
