'Portrait of Man and Woman' by STM (c. 1950s)

'Portrait of Man and Woman', oil on board, by artist with the initials STM (c. 1950s). A splendid cubist depiction, this is a portrait of a young man and woman in angled torso and face. There are no facial features painted in - just lines and colour. Painted with hues from across the spectrum, the work is executed in blues, greens, browns and reds, all harmonious and in balance. This painting surely must have been inspired by Pablo Picasso's cubist period. The artist, STM, lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. Several galleries have acquired and are now selling STM'S works - this speaks to the widespread assessment of the quality and interest of the art. This piece in excellent vintage condition in original frame with new coloured linen mount and reglazed. Initialed, 'S.T.M.' in lower left hand corner.
