'Pensive Woman with Rose' by Unknown Artist (circa 1940s - 50s)
0117
'Pensive Woman with Rose', oil on board, by unknown artist with initials F.O.R. (circa 1940s - 1950s). This is a portrait of an elegant young woman in the dress of a 1920s flapper but without the verve and gusto associated with the period. Flappers were the icons of the 'Roaring 20s'. But in this depiction, there is a pensiveness or melancholy on the face of the subject as she looks directly at the viewer. In this case, perhaps, the young woman's expression was a reaction to having received the single rose from an unwanted admirer? Only the artist knows for certain. Unfortunately nothing is known of this artist with the initials F.O.R., other than they lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. In very good vintage condition - newly framed with gold coloured insert. Initialed: 'F.O.R.'. Upon request, a video clip of this work may be provided for context.
