'Paris Opera House' French School (circa 1950s)
SKU 1489
'Paris Opera House', watercolour, pencil and ink on art paper, French School, (circa 1950s). This very lively image of the Opera Garnier in Paris is gorgeously depicted. A very busy day in the square (La Place de l'Opera) in front of probably the most famous opera house in the world and a symbol of Paris. Of course that is partly due to its use as the setting for 'The Phantom of the Opera'. The beautiful building has been described as the only one that is 'unquestionably a masterpiece of the first rank.' This mystery artist has captured it perfectly in this wonderfully animated and uplifting work of art. For those lovers of Paris, the opera, phantoms and vivid colour, this piece is completely accessible and charming by an artist that remains anonymous as the signature is mostly illegible. The artwork was recently discovered in the South of France. It is newly framed and glazed under anti-reflective glass and in good overall condition as it has been cleaned by an art restoration specialist. The piece is signed in the lower right hand and cites the subject: 'La Place de l'Opera' above the signature. A video of this work may be provided upon request.
