Pair of Black Ceramic Head Sculptures / Vases with Earrings (circa 1950s)
0197
Pair of French Black Ceramic Head Sculptures / Vases with Earrings. Unsigned (circa 1950s). Two unusually distinctive vases emulating African indigenous art. Characterful faces with piercing looks front the sculptures with the wide ears acting as handles. The flat black colour is occasionally interrupted by small but filled-with-interest nicks and scratches and a maroon brown hue. One vase is shorter with a stockier visage (more voluminous), the second, slim and long-necked. Even the internal surface exudes interest with coiled layers evident from the production process. The pieces are substantial without being overly weighty. They are stunning in their simplicity and truly works of art. In good vintage condition commensurate with age. If requested, a short video clip of the pieces may be provided.
