Original Exhibition Poster, Galerie Lucie Weill, Paris, 1970, after Pablo Picasso. An original poster for Picasso's exhibition at Galerie Lucie Weill on the rue Bonaparte, which opened on 11 December 1970 in Paris. The show presented 35 of his recent "empreintes originales," the ceramic editions made at the Madoura pottery in Vallauris by pressing clay into moulds taken from Picasso's own carved originals. The poster depicts one of these pieces which is a square plaque with a bearded face all in warm ochre and grey glazes. The glaze is so well captured in the image that you can almost feel the relief. Beneath it, the gallery's classic typography gives the details of the show. It is in good overall condition with some very slight blemishing near the top edges, commensurate with age.
Lucie Weill's small Left Bank gallery showed Picasso's prints and ceramics throughout the 1960s and 1970s, and this poster comes from the last years of Picasso's life, three years before his death in 1973. This offset lithograph was created by Imprimerie Arnéra, Vallauris, the workshop of Hidalgo Arnéra, who was Picasso's linocut printer in that town from the 1950s and also printed many of his exhibition posters (Please note that the Imprimerie's name is partly obscured by the frame). The work has been newly framed in natural oak with museum grade, anti-reflective glazing. Upon request a video will be provided.
