Mid-century French ceramic apothecary jar by Gustave Reynaud for Le Mûrier (circa 1950s). A delightful piece with Reynaud's signature style, chalk-white colour with red flower and foliage painted motif. A charming bell-shaped cover with painted red band adds interest and links the lid with the base. The team of Reynaud and his famous brother-in-law, Jean Derval, combined to design and make Le Mûrier's best pieces and this is a beautiful example of their work. In fair vintage condition commensurate with age. Note: There is a chip on the surround of the base - see photos. The interior of the jar is a very clean white. Maker's mark on the base, Le Mûrier's trademarked mulberry leaf. Upon request, a video of the piece can be provided. Please see the many accompanying photos of the piece in this listing. 

About the Artist: Gustave Reynaud (1915-1972) founded the pottery, Le Mûrier (Mulberry Tree), in Vallauris, France in 1955. He produced earthenware designed in conjunction with his well known brother-in-law, Jean Derval, as well as vases, wall plaques and anthropomorphic jugs. He also worked with the potter JF Descombes and decorator Michel Barbier in their well known village. After Reynaud's death in 1972 his wife ran the pottery until 1984.
