About the Artist: Nancy Wickham (Boyd) (1923-1987) was a Vermont based ceramics artist and potter. She studied her craft at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred, New York, in the mid 1940s, and subsequently established a studio and shop in Woodstock, Vermont, where she produced mainly functional ceramics. She first showed her work in 1946 at the famed Ceramic National exhibition at the Syracuse Museum of Fine Arts, showing there again in 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1955, and 1958. In the 1950s Wickham met and began working with Lee and Samuel Rosen who invited her to create ceramic lamp bodies for their newly established company, Design Technics. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s she produced many important pieces for the Rosens while she continued to sell her own signature style of functional and decorative pottery from her Vermont storefront. Examples of Wickham's work are included in the permanent holdings of the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York, and are represented elsewhere in public and private collections. Her ceramics have somewhat of a cult following and are collected both in the United States and internationally.
