Large Decorative Bowl by Jacques Pouchain - Atelier Dieulefit (circa 1960s)
0390
Large mid-century decorative bowl (circa 1960s) by Jacques Pouchain - Atelier Dieulefit. This decorative bowl has as its centre, a large sunburst motif in brown over a wider glaze of dusty white. There is a stylised face in the middle of the sun. Above the sun you will find a series of poppies in the same lightly engraved brown. When a piece is signed, as this one is, with 'J.P. and Atelier Dieulefit' it implies a more personal and significant work by Pouchain. In very good vintage condition with characterful marks commensurate with its age and use.
About the Artist: Jacques Pouchain (1925 - 2005) left Paris and gave up his architectural training in the 1950s for the South of France to devote himself to art and his pottery studio at Dieulefit. He produced highly personal work and more commercial pieces as well both revealing a modern approach to pottery.
