'La Brasserie Georges in Lyon', oil on canvas, by P. Olland (circa 1990s). Brasserie Georges is one of the oldest and largest brasseries in Lyon, France, founded in 1836. It is renowned for its vast Art Deco dining hall capable of seating over 600 guests beneath soaring columns and ornate vaulted ceilings. It has long been a fixture of Lyonnais culinary and cultural life, historically frequented by writers, artists, and travellers passing through. Its grand, atmospheric interior, with its distinctive architecture and bustling brigade of white-aproned waitstaff, has made it a popular subject for painters seeking to capture the energy of traditional French brasserie culture. This artist's rendering depicts the crowded dining hall and the raised bar area in the rear of the artwork. In the forefront, a waiter in traditional black and white attire tends to the seated patrons. Rather than having painted in great detail, the artist created this work in a bold, gestural style using colour to seduce the viewer into the scene. The painting is in good overall condition and has been newly framed with a linen slip. The artist's signature is in the lower right. Unfortunately, no information about P. Olland has been found. On the verso of the work is a certificate with detail and an illegible signature. Please enjoy the many images accompanying this listing. Upon request a video will be provided.
