SKU 0574

Jewellery box with decorative ceramic lid by Mithé Espelt (circa 1960s). Art deco style raised floral motif with blue, green and white over a stunning blue base lid. The decorative surround is in Espelt's trademark gold crackle. The lid tops a wooden black box with protective felt base and bottom. The piece is in good vintage condition with characterful blemishing attesting to its age and usage. The overall charm is undeniable. The work is unsigned.

About the artist: Mithé Espelt is reknowned for her production of ceramic mirrors of remarkable originality and often mistakenly confused with those of François Lembo. The Mithé Espelt workshop was in Lunel, France near Montpellier. The atelier mastered the technical challenges of using gold and enamel for their signature style mirrors and elegant boxes which were often encrusted with crystals and vibrant stones. Today, her daughter, Marion DeCrecy, continues the family tradition making contemporary versions of her parents' designs as well as new original motifs.
