About Maison Charles: In 1908, Ernest Charles took over the bronzier, Maison Ullmann. Charles' company specialised in the reproduction of old light fixtures, thus building a reputation within the profession of artistic bronzier. His two sons, Emile and Pierre, took over the running of the company when they combined forces in the 1930 changing the firm's name to Charles Frères. Emile-Albert Charles and his two sons, Jean and Jacques, created the "Charles Style" combining classicism and rigour with an appreciation of contemporary trends to form a new approach in the field of lighting and decoration. In 1971 Chrystiane Charles, Jean's wife and a golde medal-winning sculptor from the Beaux Arts school in Paris, then took over the Artistic Direction of Maison CHARLES and created the Collection that bears her name. Carrying the torch for the family, she created a collection of signed and numbered lamp-sculptures, with a contemporary expression and inspired by nature: Amaryllis, Alizea, Orchid and Tulips. Maison Charles continues creating inventive lighting to today.
