French Ceramic Decorative Box by Cloutier Brothers (circa 1970s)
SKU 1248B
French ceramic decorative box by the Frères Cloutier (circa 1970s). A charming image of a fruit bowl attracts one's immediate attention to this delightful decorative box. In one of the trademark Cloutier colours, it is immediately identifiable as theirs. With its subtle hues it may be placed anywhere in your home or workplace - either as a decorative piece or utilitarian. It is in fair overall condition as there is a hairline crack originating in the top corner visible without the cover and extending about an inch downwards. A very minor chip is also present on the open mouth not visible with the cover in place. These do not affect the overall charm and integrity of the piece yet it has been priced modestly. Please note the diminutive size of the piece.
About the Designers: Jean and Robert Cloutier are called the twin brothers of ceramics. After having apprenticed for Lafourcade, Rivière, Georges Jouve and Pol Chambost, the brothers created their own workshop located in Paris in 1955. They produced both functional and dreamlike decorative objects. After Paris and a brief interlude in the town of Yonne, France, the Cloutiers put down roots in the Languedoc region of southern France. Forever refining their ceramic processes, they are considered to have perfectly mastered their profession and are held in the highest esteem.
