Ask a Question

'French Beach Scene', oil on board (1964), by Unknown Artist. This work depicts a scene of onlookers on the beach, perhaps next to a boardwalk, observing a spectacle that the painting's viewer is not privy to. Some of the figures are fully clothed in street ware, a few others, in bathing costume. Is it a Bastille Day fireworks celebration? Only the artist knows for sure. We see the water, the sand, a pier jutting out, an impression of a fluttering French flag - everything but the show itself. The artist's brush strokes are confident and painterly. The colours: yellows, pale blues, black, red and magenta. The work is in excellent vintage condition commensurate with its age. Newly framed and glazed. In upper right hand corner appears to be a date which is not completely decipherable. The year appears as '64'. A short video clip of this work can be provided upon request.
