'Confidenze' (Confidences) by Gaetano Bocchetti (circa 1970s)

An intimate studio scene depicts a nude model seated with her back to the viewer, absorbed in quiet conversation with a seated woman in a vivid orange-red dress. Between them, a small object, perhaps a letter or a photograph is held out and examined, the visual and emotional centre of the exchange. The title, "Confidenze", suggests a moment of shared intimacy or secret-telling between the two women, rendered with real warmth in Bocchetti's earthen-toned palette and confident, painterly brushwork. The artwork is in good overall condition and is elegantly framed with a linen slip. It is signed in the lower left hand (and on the reverse along with an indecipherable dedication or address). About the Artist: Gaetano Bocchetti (1888-1990) from Naples, Italy, dropped out of medical school after being accepted to the Neapolitan School of Fine Arts. Bocchetti left a tremendous body of work: lush Italian landscapes, still-lifes and intimate portraits of people on their own, mostly women. Beyond painting, Bocchetti was also a celebrated fresco decorator, completing numerous religious frescoes across southern Italy inspired by 17th- and 18th-century tradition, including work at the Basilica of San Giuseppe da Copertino in Osimo. He continued painting and working from his Naples studio into his final years, remarkably active well into his second century of life, and died in his native city in 1990 at the age of 101.
