Vallauris, France ceramic pot with lid in circular shape with handles. Handcrafted in the south of France in the famous community, Vallauris so well known for its pottery. In 1948 Picasso came to live in Vallauris, where he stayed until 1955. During his time in the town, he created a great many sculptures and paintings and developed a fascination for the techniques of ceramics and linocuts.
This pot is a French ceramic signed in the back by Francois Caleca (1921 - ?), or CF and 'decor main' (hand painted) indicated as well. The piece is painted in mid-century modern grey with modern black lines and a red spot which is the signature design of Francois Caleca. 'Vallauris' is also stamped on the bottom. Great mid-century example of the Vallauris ceramic artwork.
Good vintage condition showing minor paint chipping on the underside of the lid.
