Ceramic Lamp by Jacques Blin with Original Raffia Shade (c. 1950s)
A beautiful table lamp by Jacques Blin (1920-1995) who was an engineer by trade but with a love for the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and whimsical abstract motifs in his works which are always signed "J. Blin". In the case of this lamp, (c. 1950s) that is precisely what is depicted on the frieze encircling the base - animals and trees that are wonderfully unsophisticated, simple, child-like and charming. The original shade is of straw made in a hula-hoop style generating a warm glow like an autumn bonfire. This is a much sought-after style. In excellent condition.
