'Archangel Michael' by Marcella (1958)
'Archangel Michael', pastels on paper, by Marcella (Unknown artist) (1958). Believers say angels visit all people before they die. Just before the moment of death, the angel visits giving those who haven't yet connected to God, a chance at salvation. The guardian angels who are assigned to care for each person's soul throughout their lifetimes also encourage them to trust God.
In this piece, the dead soul has made the decision. Is it heaven or hell? Surely the artwork must provide a clue. Perhaps it is in the heavenly colours used by the artist: terra cotta orange, mint green and a delicate pink - all transport the viewer, along with the soul, to paradise. Newly framed and glazed. In excellent vintage condition.
