Hand-Painted Persian Ceramic Plate (20th Century)

A hand-painted earthenware plate attributed to Shahidi, the noted Persian ceramics workshop founded in Rasht on the Caspian coast (20th Century). Decorated with a lively school of stylised fish, cross-hatched and outlined in black, swimming across a rich cobalt ground with touches of deep purple shading, in the vivid polychromatic style for which their ceramics are known. No maker's mark present. In fair condition presenting some small areas of loss at the edges and darkening along the rim consistent with an assumed age of about 50 years old.
