Ask a Question

'The Green Coat', pastel on art paper, by W. Worms (circa 1950s). Tenderly portrayed and painted with masterly execution, one may suppose a close connection between artist and subject. Being seated indoors with coat implies that one is there temporarily, perhaps waiting for another. The model's demeanour also suggests a certain insouciance. Definitely an intriguing character. Although green is commonly associated with jealousy, it is also the colour of spring and renewal, a colour which leaves one tranquil and settled. This is the case with this beautiful woman in her green coat. Discovered in the South of France, the signature is 'W. Worms' which may be of Alsatian or German origin. Research about the artist is inconclusive. Whatever the case, the painting is in a fine frame with French-style linen slip and glazed, suggesting the previous owner held the work in high regard. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video of the artwork may be provided.
