'Portrait of a Worker', oil on board, by unknown Eastern European artist (circa 1950s). Portrait of a Soviet proletarian in the Socialist Realism style. Here is an idealised depiction of a worker who appears content, confident, hard-working and drenched in Soviet sunlight. This style of painting was simply propaganda art and any cynical or bleak elements were banned in favour of very highly optimistic depictions of Soviet life in that era. Regardless of the politics of socialist realism, this portrait is beautifully executed and the colours, magnificent. In very good vintage condition. Signed in lower right hand corner but illegible. Newly framed with linen slip. A short video of this work may be provided upon request.
