'Portrait of Boy-Haulier with Bucket' (1950), oil on board, by Italian artist, G. Amore. In the early 20th century, Italian boys and young men were often engaged in mining in both the Sicilian sulphur mines and marble mines in the Tuscan centre of the country. While the older, experienced miners used pickaxes and chisels to reach the ore, the boys, burdened with the weighty buckets, hauled it out of the mines to the collection point. This artwork sympathetically portrays its subject who seems well fed and healthy looking although dangerously unclad given the nature of the work. The boy, and the upper reaches of the elevation behind him, are painted in sympathetic, warmer hues and are contrasted with the harsher blues of the earth he is having to move. The stone is his life's adversary, his body's antagonist. The painting is in good condition commensurate with its age. It is newly framed and signed by the artist and dated (1950), however, the date is obscured below the frame. Upon request, a video clip of the work may be provided.

Regrettably, not much is known about the artist other than their nationality. The painting was acquired in Tuscany between Florence and Sienna.
