Mid-century decorative fruit bowl by Albert Thiry (circa 1960s). A gentle green glaze encircles the lip exterior of the bowl with touches of a subdued hue of red. The body and interior recess have a glaze of chalk white. Decorated on the exterior encircling the bowl are several geometric shapes filled in clay brown with a repeating, white crosshatch pattern. The bowl's interior is decorated with a stunning, large blue flower - probably a thistle - and its leaves. Both visually appealing and tactile, the piece would make a  wonderful addition to your home or workspace. This may be one of the most elegant, charming pieces created by Thiry - it is so Provençal in Thiry's trademark style and colours. In good overall condition. Signed: 'Thiry' on base of dish. Upon request a video may be provided.

About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932 - 2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
