Vintage French Ceramic Vase / Decanter by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s)
SKU 1293
Vintage French decorative ceramic vase / decanter by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s). In an elegant shape calling to mind a graceful bird, this piece by Blin is a stunning work of art. Using a shade of subtle, misty green as backdrop, the artist incised his iconic and fantastical animals and fish on a mid-level frieze covered in the charcoal-like glaze. Circling around the neck and at the very base are incised patterns with vertical lines. Rarely does one encounter a ceramic by this artist with this particularly dramatic shape and alluring style. In good overall condition. Signed on the base. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video of the piece may be provided.
About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920-1995) was an engineer by trade but with a love for the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and whimsical abstract motifs in his works which are always signed "J. Blin". A comprehensive book of the works of Jacques Blin has recently been released in both French and English: 'Jacques Blin, Ceramiste & Porteur d'Histoires' by Christine Lavenu.
