Ask a Question

Vintage French ceramic vase by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s). In an elegant shape with a narrow spout, this piece by Blin is a work of art. Using a shade of very subtle misty green as backdrop, the artist incised his iconic and fantastical animals seemingly transported from ancient cave drawings. There is a diminutive handle attached at the neck. Rarely does one encounter a ceramic by this artist with this particularly sensuous shape. Indeed, it is the first listed by this gallery. In very good overall condition. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video of the piece may be provided.

About the ArtistJacques Blin (1920-1995) was an engineer by trade but with a love for the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and whimsical abstract motifs in his works which are always signed "J. Blin". A comprehensive book of the works of Jacques Blin has recently been released in both French and English: 'Jacques Blin, Ceramiste & Porteur d'Histoires' by Christine Lavenu.
