Vintage French Ceramic Cachepot by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s)
SKU 2493
Mid-century French ceramic cachepot by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s). The cachepot is a distinctive piece in various hues of brown on the exterior with a milky-white interior. As with virtually all of Blin's pieces, there are whimsical decorations lightly incised including animals, plant life and even a human, that are wonderfully naive or 'primitive' in appearance. From long experience with Blin's work, we consider this an exceptionally rare piece — in a colour not previously seen in his body of work, and in one of his most sought-after forms. It is in good overall condition with no evident restorations or defects. A small part of the lip presents remnants of excess clay from the original firing. Please enjoy the many accompanying photos with this listing.
Signed on the underside: 'J. Blin,' with retailer’s label “Arvel, Poitiers”. The sticker adds additional appeal to collectors, as it situates the piece within its original commercial network. Upon request a video clip can be provided.
About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920-1995) gave up a career in engineering for his love of the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures and abstract motifs in his works which are always signed "J. Blin".
