Ask a Question

'The Past and the Future', oil on canvas, French School (circa 1970s). Although painted in a figurative style, there is a surreal quality to the image. Two men stand in opposing directions under a leafless tree in an enclosure. It seems as if one man is looking into the past, the other into the future. There is a symmetry to the image with the two houses mimicking the stance of the men. The small homes are of the style found in the far west of France, in Brittany. It is regrettable that information about the artist is unavailable, although the signature is mostly legible in the lower left hand. It appears to be written: 'F. Lomala'. The painting is in fair condition. The colours are vibrant but there is some loss visible around the edges of the new tray frame not affecting the overall impression of the work. The painting was discovered in Avignon, France. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request, a video will be provided.
