'The Opera Singer', oil on board, by unknown artist (circa 1940s - 1960s). This is a delightfully radiant cubist depiction of a magnificent stage singer. We all know the reputations of operatic divas with their outrageous behaviour in the form of tantrums, squabbles, egotism, spotlight-stealing and even knockout, drag-down fighting. All form the repertoire of the demanding diva in opera lore.

However, unlike less talented singers, a diva's faults are always forgiven because there simply is not a more beautiful voice. In this case, we ask to forgive the artist who did not sign this beautiful work left behind with just a title. This elegant diva arrives on her canvas stage by way of masterfully applied oils in a variety of stirring hues with no one to fight over the spotlight except the colours, lines, angles and curves from which she was created and which highlight her expressive features. The lustrous mahogany-brown background only projects her further into the spotlight closer to her admirers where she longs to be. A stunning work.

In very good vintage condition commensurate with age. Unsigned. A video clip of this work may be provided upon request.
