'The Guitarist', oil on board, by J.G. (circa 1940s - 1960s). Clearly inspired by Georges Braque's (1882 - 1963) and Juan Gris' (1887 - 1927) works, this painting is similar to experimental representations by both Braque and Picasso which challenged the orthodoxy of illusionistic space in painting. J.G. has broken down the image of this figure with guitar into its geometrical components and represented several angles at once. This elegant depiction is accomplished with sensuous colour tones on a backdrop of geometric shapes, masterfully executed. It is a stunning work. Newly framed with elegant linen slip. In good vintage condition commensurate with age. There are some minor blemishes and slight fading, however, they simply add to the vintage character of the art work. Initialed: 'J.G.' in lower lefthand corner. A video clip of this work may be provided upon request.

About the Artist: Our gallery has access to a cache of paintings from Berlin in the 1940s - 1960s. What we know of J.G. is derived from our source from whom we've obtained this artwork along with several others. The artist who used the initials, J.G. ostensibly lived in Berlin in the period after WWII. With an enthusiastic following of collectors, JG's works have sold internationally speaking to the widespread assessment of the quality and interest of the art.
